Our love for beer goes hand in hand with our love for travel. This log captures the places we've explored—cities, countries, and cozy corners of the world—all through the lens of local brews and unforgettable moments.
Our trip to Lisbon and Porto was more than just sightseeing—it was a journey into the past. Luisa’s ancestry report traced her roots to Portugal, a connection that felt especially meaningful given Puerto Rico’s history of Spanish colonization and Cristóbal Colón’s departure from Portugal.
While exploring the rich history and vibrant streets, we also dove into Portugal’s growing craft beer scene. From sipping IPAs in tucked-away taprooms to tasting local brews by the Douro River, every pint added a new layer to the story—blending heritage, discovery, and hops.
We were drawn to Mexico for so many reasons—its vibrant culture, deep history, and the fact that it's one of our closest neighbors to the south. From exploring ancient pyramids to immersing ourselves in local traditions, every moment was unforgettable. And yes, the beer impressed us too—craft brews bursting with flavor and regional character made the experience even richer. Mexico welcomed us with open arms and cold cervezas.
Prague was captivating—especially its rich pivo culture. We explored traditional beer halls and modern pubs, learning how Czech beer isn’t just a drink but a way of life. From foam-topped pours to clinking glasses with eye contact, every pint came with its own story.
Our journey to Charlotte wasn’t just about exploring the local craft beer scene—it was also a family affair. Elvis’s brother calls the Queen City home, so we made the trip to visit him and share a few pints. We were also lucky to spend time with Tía Judith, who came up from Colombia. While she wasn’t the biggest fan of the chilly Carolina weather, she definitely warmed up to the vibrant brewery culture.
From neighborhood gems in Charlotte like Wooden Robot, Salud Cerveceria, and Protagonist, to Asheville’s hop heaven with iconic spots like Wicked Weed, Green Man, and Sierra Nevada, our glasses were full and so were our hearts. We even made it out to Fonta Flora’s Whippoorwill Farm for a taste of rural brewing bliss.
Panama poured us a good time—one pint and one adventure at a time. We kicked things off in Panama City, pedaling through the breezy Amador Causeway and raising a glass at local favorites like La Rana Dorada, La Fábrica, and Central Cervecería. A quick hop over to Isla Taboga gave us island vibes and sea breeze, while our last days unwound on the sandy beaches of Veracruz. From canals to craft brews, this trip was a perfect blend of bold flavors and laid-back sips—exactly what being hoppy is all about.
After a long wait, we finally made it to Colombia! The pandemic delayed our plans to visit Elvis’ family, but we’re so grateful we were able to make the trip now—especially to celebrate becoming newly appointed godparents. While the main reason for the visit was family, we also took the chance to explore. We revisited Barranquilla to see how much it’s changed, checked in on my future retirement spot in Cartagena, and ventured to two new destinations: Medellín and the colorful town of Guatapé. It was a meaningful, joy-filled trip from start to finish.
